Every Rating Scale is linked to a Manual page

In the LAP-AT clicking any ‘Manual’ button instantly opens a dedicated guide—like the switch Target Size example below—to help your team make informed, consistent ratings and gather other program planning information. The interactive nature of the manual pages allows the team to record their rating on the scale, complete other information gathering fields, and record notes while on the manual page. The ratings and information are automatically integrated into assessment protocol and the graphing and finding report pages.

Manual Page Explanation

  1. The name of the Resource category.
(Cognitive Resource) and Scale (Switch Comprehension)
  2. Considerations for making a rating.
(This scale presents a continuum that begins with a person being aware of a change or difference in the environment

associated with the activation of a switch and advances incrementally though understanding of basic cause-and-effect relationships, responding contingently, and then to choice-making between an increasing number of options and effects.)

  3. A directive or question for the Team.(Rate the person’s current understanding of the effects of switches.)

  4. Rating Criteria: Each scale uses an incremental rating scale (0–10).
A rating of “0” indicates a severe level of impairment or a total lack of the resource, while a “10” indicates an area of functional strength. Intermediate ratings (1–9) reflect varying degrees of functioning. Rating labels are provide for the even numbered choices. Odd numbered ratings are used when the team feels that the rating falls between two labeled choices.

  5. Check Boxes or Other Information Gathering Elements: For many scales additional information is gathered identifying specific aspects of task demands that have significantly impact functioning.

  6. Notes: The Team records significant aspects of the individual’s functioning, the requirements of tasks or activities, or the environment or setting that represent program planning issues.
